In a house in 1980s Mexico, seven women from different generations fight to save their shared home, which is threatened with sale. Everything is portrayed through the eyes of eight-year-old Roberta, whose gaze captures both the struggles of everyday life and the magic of childhood. »Vanilla«, inspired by director Mayra Hermosillo’s own upbringing, is a poetic and warm love letter to the women who shaped her. A touching story about family and belonging – where the playfulness of childhood collides with the seriousness of the adult world.

I ett hus i 1980-talets Mexiko kämpar sju kvinnor från olika generationer för att rädda sitt gemensamma hem, som hotas av försäljning. Director’s Bio

Mayra Hermosillo

Mayra Hermosillo is a Mexican actress, director, and screenwriter best known for her role as Enedina Arellano Félix in Narcos: Mexico. In 2018, she wrote and co-directed her first short film, In Lucia’s Skin, she then went on to direct her second short film, I’ll Stay Here.
In 2025 she made her feature film debut with Vanilla, a film inspired by her own childhood experiences. The film premiered in the Giornate degli Autori section of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival in September 2025.
